CBS Reporter attacked by anti-Obama protestor.

An anti-Obama protester attacked CBS Chicago reporter Jay Levine during a live broadcast Wednesday afternoon from outside a restaurant where the president would attend a fundraiser. "Obama is a war criminal," the unidentified protester shouted as he grabbed the microphone from Levine. The CBS reporter swung back and another man appeared to tackle the demonstrator. "I've obviously gotten a little reinforcement here from one of the protesters who decided to speak his mind on live TV," Levine said afterwards. "Obviously that's his right to do."

There was an NBC reporter also doing a live feed and her cameraman caught what happened next which you can see here.

Okay if President Obama is a war criminal then what in the hell does that make George W. Bush?

Sarah Palin hits the campaign trail for Karen Handel. For the second time.

Sarah Palin hits the campaign trail for Karen Handel. For the second time.

Sarah Palin forcefully defended the only woman fighting for the Republican nomination for Georgia’s open Senate seat and hit back Thursday against a rival’s apparent dismissal of Karen Handel’s high school education.

David Perdue, the former Dollar General CEO, said that “there’s a high school graduate in this race, OK? I’m sorry but these issues are so much broader, so complex” as he talked about the economy and the federal deficit during a January meeting captured on video.

Appearing at a county women’s group Thursday, Palin said Perdue’s comments were disappointing and praised Handel’s ability to overcome the struggles of her youth. Handel, a former secretary of state, has said she left an abusive home as a teen, using a message of overcoming obstacles as a key element of her campaigns.

“She pulled herself up. Nothing was handed to her on a platter, fed to her on a silver spoon,” Palin said of Handel. “For those who would criticize and mock that, it really makes me question their judgment.”
"Oh my God, what's on her head?"
Yes Sarah Palin is very sensitive about people being judged due to a lack of education.

Cannot imagine why.

I think many of you will remember that it was Karen Handel who was behind the Komen for the Cure/Planned Parenthood debacle, and who unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Georgia back in 2010.

Palin showed up for THAT race as well.

Obviously that did not help then, and chances are it will not help this time either, as Handel is one of seven candidates vying for this GOP nomination.

And speaking of not helping, I don't think that whoever did Palin's hair for this event did her any favors either.

I mean seriously does it look like the top hair matches the bottom hair even a little bit?

You would think that if Palin REALLY wanted to help Handel win, that the least she could do was to put on her "going out in public" hair.

Well at least not all political advertisements in Alaska suck.

5:41 AM By No comments

Yeah, that's probably not going to get him any votes, but at least it's not boring.

Forrest Dunbar is a Democrat running for Congressman, and official Alaska fossil, Don Young's House seat.

Young has been in office since before they invented dirt, and nobody likes his cranky old ass, but getting him out of Washington has proven an impossible task.

Here is what was written about Dunbar back in October:

Dunbar is 29-years-old and this is his first time running for office. He split his childhood between Eagle and Cordova, and he came back to Alaska after spending some time in the Peace Corps, in law school, and on Capitol Hill. Part of the reason he’s running now is because of frustration with a highly polarized Congress.

Dunbar says he knows it’s an uphill battle. He’s only raised about $20,000 so far. Young has more than half a million dollars in his campaign account, and he represents the dominant party in the state, but Dunbar thinks that with all the attention on the Senate race, there might be space to experiment with his campaign strategy and make inroads that way.

“Some of the more traditional forms of media, which are traditionally where you spend a lot of that money, are going to be purchased up by the Senate campaigns. So, $600,000 sounds like a lot, but it’s going to pale in comparison to the $20 or $30 million that are going to be spent on either side of the Senate campaign. And I think that sort of creates an opportunity to run a more grassroots campaign, to run a more social-media-oriented campaign, to connect with voters in different ways,” he said.

I'm assuming that his idea of a more social-media-oriented campaign includes ads like the one up above, which will get him attention, but not a lot of support.

His challenger for the Democratic nomination is Matt Moore, who on the surface seems to be a more traditional candidate.

I don't think either one has much of a chance unless my friend Dennis Zaki wants to reveal what he knows about Congressman Young.

Hang on I have a phone call to make.

The Fort Hood shooting. A tragic deja vu.

The Fort Hood shooting. A tragic deja vu.
Courtesy of the Chicago Tribune:

Investigators delved into the background Thursday of a soldier who had been treated for mental illness before he killed three people and himself a day earlier at an Army base in Fort Hood, Texas, where another deadly rampage took place in 2009, military officials said.

The suspected shooter was being seen by a psychiatrist and showed no signs of violence or suicidal tendencies, U.S. Army Secretary John McHugh said on Thursday.

McHugh also told a U.S. Senate committee there was no indication that the soldier was involved with any extremist organizations.

There was no motive given for the incident, although officials ruled out terrorism. The shooting also wounded 16 others, and the gunman, who had been treated for depression and anxiety, was yet to be officially identified.

The victims were all military personnel at the massive Army base, which houses many soldiers who have seen combat abroad.

The soldier had served four months in Iraq in 2011 and was undergoing evaluation for post-traumatic stress disorder, said Fort Hood commanding officer Lieutenant General Mark Milley.

Security officials said preliminary information identified the gunman as Ivan Lopez, but Milley declined to name the shooter, who is married, until his family was notified. (This has been confirmed just now on MSNBC.)

The suspect's wife was cooperating with law enforcement officers, a Federal Bureau of Investigation official said, according to CNN.

The shooter had "self-reported" a traumatic brain injury after returning from Iraq but was never wounded in action, Milley said. He arrived in Fort Hood in February from another military installation.

At about 4:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the soldier went to two buildings on the base and opened fire before he was confronted by military police, Milley said.

The gunman then shot himself in the head with a .45-caliber pistol, he said. U.S. Representative Michael McCaul of Texas told reporters the man was wearing an Army uniform.

Milley said law enforcement was looking into reports of an argument at the base ahead of the shooting.

"At this time there is no indication that this incident is related to terrorism," Milley told a news conference.

I decided to wait to post about this tragedy, because I have learned from experience that the initial information is always incorrect in its details.

The original reports were of about six injured and the one death, and that tentatively identified as the gunman. Sadly later we learned that there were many more victims.

Of course as most of us remember this is not the first mass shooting at Fort Hood, there was one in 2009 which many have linked to a terrorism, because the individual was Muslim.

In that shooting there thirteen causalities and over thirty wounded.

That time, and I am sure it will happen again this time, there were calls from gun control advocates for stricter gun laws and calls from the other side for arming everybody on the base. You know, cause THAT will help.

I heard this morning that the precautions that were adopted probably helped to save lives in this incident. We will have to learn more to determine if that is true.

I actually don't think this will have much of an impact on gun laws, nor am I sure that it should.

Even though the guy was seeing a psychiatrist he did not show any serious signs of mental illness, and he did not demonstrate any indications of suicidal ideation or homicidal fantasies.

As much as we would like to think that stricter gun control laws can prevent any such tragedy, and certainly they could prevent many, in this case I don't think it would have made much difference.

The man was a soldier, so he had adequate training with firearms. He had the right under the law to own a gun (Though the gun was not registered, not that that makes any difference.), and he did not demonstrate a reason to restrict his access to firearms. Even with stricter laws, it is does not appear he would have been impacted.

I would still like to see stricter laws, including registering all serial numbers with the government and background checks at gun shows and for purchases online, but I am not sure any of that would have saved lives this time around.

Just a sad, and tragic story of somebody in great pain who nobody seemed to hear until it was too late.

Sarah Palin's bit on the Tonight Show last night. Oh the humanity.

4:21 AM By No comments

Bad wig, deflated breasteses, mortuary style makeup, and no visible comic timing. Yep that's Palin.

Of course Palin used the appearance to get as much attention as possible, and of course pimp her crappy new show.

Sarah Palin's bit on the Tonight Show last night. Oh the humanity.
The caption over this one read:

Ran into Mr. Strong Genes and Mr. Mom Jeans at the Tonight Show. Tune in to the Tonight Show tonight and tomorrow to “Amazing America” on Sportsman Channel!

I am sure that Palin thinks that she came off well in that segment (Even got off a reference to Obama's mom jeans and Mama Grizzly's), but I predict that much like the SNL bits she will soon learn that more people were laughing AT her, than laughing WITH her.

Thousands visit miraculous glowing statue of the Madonna. Miracle turns out to be luminous paint.

Thousands visit miraculous glowing statue of the Madonna. Miracle turns out to be luminous paint.

Courtesy of Catholic Online:

Thousands had been drawn to a remote Belgian village to see a glowing statue of the Madonna. While mysterious, the reason behind the statue's glow has since been found. A team of scientists from the science faculty at Liege University found that the statue was glowing in the dark because it had been covered with paint containing zinc sulphide.

"This chemical has a luminous effect and is the reason for the strange light. It's no miracle," Dr. Rudi Cloots, who led the university team said.

Cloots could not explain why it took 15 years before the glow appeared. The paint was applied to the figure at an unknown date.

The statue began glowing in mid-January. Police had to control crowds in the village of Jalhay, near Liege who were eager to touch the figure. The statue reportedly began to glow in the kitchen of an elderly couple's home.

Over 500 people visited the house in one day, eager to pay homage to it.

" Cloots could not explain why it took 15 years before the glow appeared." I'm guessing that's how long it took the people who owned the house before they stumbled upon the idea of how to take advantage of their superstitious neighbors.

But hey just because it was totally phony does not mean it didn't have miraculous properties.

Four visitors to the statue claimed that they had been cured of physical disabilities after being in the presence of the Madonna.

Hmm, I have to wonder what type of "physical disabilities" are cured by touching a fake, glow in the dark, ceramic statue?

Perhaps the miracle was the vast number of morons living so close to this little village.

Oh yeah, such a reasonable group.

Oh yeah, such a reasonable group.
Doesn't leave a lot of room for discussion does it?

So in a nutshell if you are not religious you are leading this country to civil war.

You not to be disagreeable, but I don't think it is OUR side who is always threatening to shoot people that we don't agree with.

Hearing that the Obamacare sign ups have exceeded 7 million, Glenn Beck loses what's left of his mind.

Hearing that the Obamacare sign ups have exceeded 7 million, Glenn Beck loses what's left of his mind.
"Whaaat?"
Hearing that the Obamacare sign ups have exceeded 7 million, Glenn Beck loses what's left of his mind.
Courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

Declaring that the seven million figure was obviously phony, Beck flew into a rage against Obama and the "rat bastards" in the media who refuse to hold him accountable for his pathological lying.

"This guy," Beck said of Obama, "you put him in a military uniform, I'm not kidding you, you put him on a balcony in a military uniform, this guy is a full-fledged dictator."

"He's a sociopath!," Beck proclaimed, later in the broadcast. "He's sociopathic!."

Then, after an hour of ranting about Obama and the press and the Republicans, Beck finally snapped and declared that he is "not going to pay attention to these people any more, I am not going to waste my life," screaming that "I have a right to pursue my happiness, I have a right to do what I was born to do!"

Wow! And you thought Glenn Beck was nucking futs before.

I am still somewhat confused as to how millions of people getting access to health care is infringing on Glenn Beck's pursuit of happiness, but he is clearly angry about it, as you can see by the splotchy flushed look on his face as he announces that his "state of mind is great."

The funny thing is that this is much the same response as can be see all over Right Wing blogs, conservative radio programs, and of course Fox News.

After constantly claiming that that there was no way for the Affordable Care Act to sign up the predicted 7 million users before March 31st, now they are either claiming the numbers are false, having a nervous breakdown, or both.

Gee I wonder if Obamacare covers mental health as well?

Uber Christian, Candace Cameron-Bure, is being compared to Bristol Palin because she is modest. I'm sorry what?

1:00 AM By No comments

Uber Christian, Candace Cameron-Bure, is being compared to Bristol Palin because she is modest. I'm sorry what?
Former Full House star, and current DWTS contestant, Candace Cameron-Bure has as her partner Mark Ballas, the same partner that Bristol had both times she embarrassed herself on the show. So apparently that, plus the Christian spin, not to mention that they are comparing her to Bristol by name, has made Brancy feel the need to sound off on poor Cameron's dancing costume dilemma.

From Brancy's blog:

As I’ve written before, Candice Cameron-Bure is trying to get through Dancing with the Stars with her dignity and modesty in tact.

Here’s a great clip where she explains how she balances Christianity and the sometimes sexy dances.

Great job, Candace!

Aw poor Candace. Here she is being pulled out of virtual anonymity, and put on national television in front of a huge audience, just to find herself worried that God will see a nip slip and send her to burn in hell for all eternity.

Well I guess she could go full Bristol.

Not that I considered Bristol to have been terribly modest.

I guess it's still Christian as long as there are no wine coolers involved.

My memory, at least of the first season, was that Bristol's "modesty" was less about covering any exposed skin and more about hiding the fact that she was swelling up like the Hindenburg.

And when Bristol DID have the extra pounds suctioned out lose weight she did not exactly demonstrate any Christian modesty.

Besides would a moral Christian girl really behave like this?

This former reality star has not been on a show in some time, but because of who she is and her family she still has A+ list name recognition. Apparently she is also yours for the night if you get her drunk enough. Five nights in a row she got wasted. Three of those nights she went home with a different guy. Hope she used protection otherwise her next reality show is going to be Maury. Now that would be a great episode of television.

So I guess if Candace is REALLY concerned about being a "good girl" then more power to her, but having Mark Ballas compare her to Bristol is really doing her a disservice.
